In the coming days, I will be representing the Vincentians of the Eastern Province at the SIGNIS World Congress in Quebec City, Canada. SIGNIS is the World Catholic Association for Communication, and the organization’s mission is to support Catholic communicators in “transform[ing] our cultures in the light of the Gospel by promoting human dignity, justice and reconciliation.” With the Church’s recent celebration of World Communications Day on May 28th, Pope Francis called all of us, whether we are media professionals, or ‘casual broadcasters’ on social media, to share stories filled with hope – stories that uplift, and encourage trust in God.
The theme of the 2017 Congress is: Media for a Culture of Peace: Promoting Stories of Hope. Several sessions will focus on ‘how different organizations put the vision of promoting stories of hope into practice,’ with particular consideration of the creative use of media. Catholic communicators from all over the world will convene beginning June 19th at Laval University to share their own accounts of how they have successfully shared the Gospel message of hope through their organizations. The Congress provides the opportunity for all attending organizations to learn from the experiences and insights of one another, to grow and network and to encourage each other in the work of communications.
What are our Vincentian stories of hope? What are your own stories of hope? These are the stories that keep the fire within us burning ever brightly. They are the words and phrases and images which we hold onto tightly in our hearts. Hope transforms us and sustains us because God, the transformer and sustainer, is the source of all our hope. Friends, what are your stories of hope; of God? Write a comment below and share a moment of hope.
SIGNIS is a non-governmental organization that includes members from over 100 countries.
